GTX Corp and Aetrex Worldwide, Inc. Sign Licensing Agreement to Deliver Patented GPS Shoes Worldwide

Los Angeles, Calif. – March 24, 2010 – GTX Corp (OTCBB: GTXO), a leader in customizable, embedded 2-way GPS Personal Location Services (PLS) solutions, moves one step closer to bringing personal GPS tracking solutions to the 5.3 million seniors afflicted with dementia by signing a four year, potential multi-million dollar license agreement with Aetrex Worldwide, Inc.

Currently scheduled for retail sale this summer, the Aetrex Ambulator® GPS Shoe will provide millions of caregivers the means to help easily find those afflicted with Alzheimer’s that wander and become lost. The GPS Shoe will be available through the Aetrex owned website www.foot.com, which hosts approximately 300,000 visitors per month and was named by Yahoo! as the best health care site “below the knee,” along with the www.gpsshoe.com website, and a select group of assisted living facilities. GTX Corp’s eight patents for the GPS Shoe cover a GPS transceiver module that is placed within the footwear and transmission of location coordinates to a central monitoring station which disseminates the location data through the use of proprietary software, cellular connectivity, the GTX Corp middleware platform and the secure viewing portal.

“We believe a miniaturized GPS tracking device embedded inside a therapeutic shoe is the ideal solution for the millions afflicted with this terrible disease, and we are very pleased, after many years of R & D, to partner up with a company like Aetrex which has devoted 64 years to making foot health products,” states Patrick Bertagna Chairman and CEO of GTX Corp.

“Aetrex’s mission has always been to develop footwear and foot care products that combine unrivaled technology with innovative designs,” said Evan Schwartz, President of Aetrex Worldwide Inc.  “This partnership is a terrific opportunity for Aetrex to use our expertise to extend the brand beyond the comfort category and help a segment of our population that is in need.”

The impact of Alzheimer’s: Currently impacting 5.3 million victims, with predictions of 14 million US victims by the year 2050; Alzheimer's disease is fast becoming "one of the biggest public health dilemmas ever encountered," according to the National Institute on Aging's deputy director, Gene Cohen. One in eight persons aged 65 and older have the Alzheimer’s disease. Every 70 seconds there is a new victim of Alzheimer’s, the 6th leading cause of death for seniors. Nearly 10 million caregivers, mostly family members, spend $148 billion a year for the care of their loved ones. The simplicity behind the GPS Shoe is that when a senior with Alzheimer’s wanders off more than a pre-set distance, their caregiver will immediately receive a geo-fence alert on their smartphone and computer, with a direct link to a Google map plotting the wanderer’s location.

Andrew Carle, a nationally recognized expert in 'Nana' technology for seniors and a professor at George Mason University said; “up to 60% of individuals with Alzheimer's will wander and become lost at least once during the progression of the disease, and up to 70% of those who become lost will do so more than once. The GPS Shoe is both life saving and a resource saving technology that will be instrumental in our ability as a nation to address the issues of wandering.”

“If Aetrex purchases the minimum number of units necessary to maintain its exclusive license, this agreement will generate multiple millions of dollars in gross revenues. In addition, upon the sale of the shoes, the Company will receive significant monthly subscription fees from the end-users,” said Murray Williams, the CFO of GTX Corp.

GPS Shoes Help Care for Alzheimer's Victims

Alzheimer's disease affects fifty-three million people in the world at the present. The ratios of 1 to 8 persons afflict those who are 65 years of age and up. There is a new person affected by this disease every seventy seconds, so Alzheimer's ranks sixth in the top reason for death. Since this illness poses a lot of challenges it usually weakens the health of the people who give care for the patients. Almost 10 million caregiver who were unpaid, many are members of the family use hundred forty-eight billion dollars for the care of the patients.

Ten percent of 9.9 million families and some unpaid caregivers of patients with Alzheimer's and other dementias who reside 2 hours or more from their patients and another 4 percent reside away from the person they give care for. These figures show that 990,000 to 1.4 million caregivers of patients with Alzheimer's and other dementias are "long distance caregivers."

Taking care from a distance is more complicated because the dementia patients tend to "wander". The exact figure of "official" occurrences of wandering may not considerably be reported, but the 60 percent of these patients will wander - equivalent to 3,000,000 persons. If they are not searched immediately, most of them will suffer to the harsh conditions or difficulties in the environments. The boundary that divides death with dementia and death from dementia is unclear up to now.

GPS enabled shoes are being introduced to the consumers by GTX Corp in coordination with Aetrex Worlwide to offer care providers with the way on how to watch the precise position of their patients through smart phones and handy devices that is web accessible. Searching for the dementia victim is beneficial but the care provider's sense of peace must not be underrated because the caring would usually also be of those that need care.

It is essential to put the GPS device in a shoe to be sure of the position and security of the patients. Many people who suffer from Alzheimer's had the tendency to take away unusual items from themselves, so it is not easy to embed other GPS monitors, medical bracelets and other devices that could give a possible data to medical experts or caregivers which could save lives. Alzheimer patients may not forget to wear their clothes, but seniors may opt not to wear the mechanism and take it away at daytime.

Included in this innovation is a geo-fence that is built around the house of the patients and a Google Maps alert that is wired to a mobile phone, home or office computer when a stipulated border is passed. GTX Corp in coordination with Aetrex aims to manufacture a shoe that will promote stress and anguish reduction experienced by the family, friends or care providers of Alzheimer's victims through helping them find their dearest ones immediately.

GPS-powered trail running shoes may be on the horizon

GTX Corporation may be one step closer to trail running shoes that have integrated GPS directly into the shoes. GPS use has increased in the cycling and running worlds, as it is used to  accurately track time, distance, and speed.  There has been discussion of GPS-enabled running shoes in the past, but nothing significant ever materialized.

The GTX "Ambulator" originally was designed to be used in hospitals and nursing homes, but the
technology could be ported into shoes and other products.  The Ambulator shoe is designed to help caretakers better monitor dementia patients who sometimes wander off without anyone knowing.

Pricing for the Ambulator varies between $200 and $300, with customers able to customize some of the features.

GPS technology has evolved from in-car products only to GPS in
mobile phones, GPS heart rate monitors, and additional products.  I like the idea of having GPS built directly into the shoes, but hope that the technology isn't overly expensive.  I also wonder how much the monthly monitoring fees will cost, as the Ambulator costs $18 per month to operate.

Many higher-end
heart rate monitors designed for athletes include GPS features, but runners occasionally may want to head out without the watch.  However, it's free to use GPS software from Garmin, Polar, and other companies, which could force GTX to lower the price of a monthly GPS subscription.

GTX CorpĀ® awarded broad U.S. Patents for its innovative and potentially life saving GPS Shoe technology.

Los Angeles, Calif. – February 23, 2010 – GTX Corp (OTCBB: GTXO), a leader in customizable, 2-way GPS Personal Location Services (PLS) solutions was recently awarded three new U.S. Patents significantly increasing the Company’s IP portfolio value. Since the issuance of U.S. Patent RE 40,879, three additional patents have issued.  All of these patent applications were filed to broadly cover fundamental aspects of providing a GPS location device in footwear.

  • U.S. Patent RE 40,879 issued August 25, 2009 with 47 claims, including 4 independent claims.
  • U.S. Patent RE 41,087 issued January 26, 2010 with 27 claims, including 3 independent claims.
  • U.S. Patent 41,102 issued February 9, 1010 with 12 claims, including 6 independent claims.
  • U.S. Patent RE 41,122 issued February 16, 2010 with 19 claims, including 8 independent claims.

“Combined, these broad patents have 105 claims, including 21 independent claims, which will pose a significant challenge for any competitor to operate in the GPS enabled footwear space without obtaining a license from GTX Corp,” said; Larry E. Henneman, Jr. Registered U.S. Patent Attorney.

The expansion of the Company’s IP portfolio and specifically in the GPS shoe category is perfect timing as the Company is currently working with Aetrex Worldwide, Inc., a global leader in adult pedorthic footwear, preparing to bring to market the patented GPS enabled shoe dubbed the “Ambulator.” The GPS Shoe will afford millions of caregivers the means to monitor those afflicted with Alzheimer’s that become lost due to wandering. The GPS Shoe patents cover a GPS transceiver module that is placed within the footwear and transmission of location coordinates to a central monitoring station which disseminates the secure data through the use of proprietary software, cellular connectivity and the GTX Corp viewing portal.

Chris Walsh, GTX Corp COO and ex VP at Nike and Reebok affirmed; “broad patents effectively creates more barriers to entry and blocks competition. We have been committed to a strong, ongoing IP strategy from day one and continue to invest in our future, offering protection and value to our investors, partners and licensees.”

Haiti: an inconceivable catastrophe has exposed the narrow crack in the Earth's social crust between despair and hope.

It is unimaginable that all the people, places and things in your life could disappear in an instant.  But in Haiti, parents have lost their children. Children have lost their families. Survivors walk about aimlessly carrying remnants of their former lives. Tens of thousands are sleeping in the streets. Rescue teams look for the lost and those that lost their lives as a result of the cataclysmic quake that gave no warning.

It could happen here. It could happen to you. It has happened before. It will happen again. Be prepared. Protect your family from the inconceivable.

GTX Corp awarded broad U.S. patent for its innovative life changing GPS enabled Shoes

Los Angeles, Calif. – September 29, 2009 – GTX Corp (OTCBB: GTXO), a leader in customizable, 2-way GPS Personal Location Services (PLS) solutions was recently awarded USPatent RE40,879. The reissuance of U.S. Patent No. 6,788,200 as reissue patent RE 40,897 is great news for GTX Corp and significantly increases the Company’s IP portfolio value. In addition to original claims 1-20, the reissue patent includes new Claims 21-47, which are much broader than the original claims and also entitled to the original filing date of October 2002.

Larry Hennemen, the attorney for GTX Corp who manages the growing IP portfolio for the Company and who was instrumental in drafting the additional claims, states, “Life just got tougher for our competitors and RE 40,897 is just the tip of the iceberg. I expect three more reissue applications to be allowed any day now. Each of these patents will include claims broadly directed to other fundamental features of our platform and products; and these reissue patents along with GTX Corp's other utility and design patents and patents pending should provide a significant competitive advantage in GTX Corp’s technological space.”

The expansion of the Company’s IP portfolio and specifically in the GPS shoes category is perfect timing as the Company is currently in China working with Aetrex Worldwide, Inc., a global leader in adult pedorthic footwear, preparing to bring to market the patented GPS enabled shoes dubbed the “Ambulator.” The GPS Shoes will afford millions of caregivers the means to instantly connect with those afflicted with Alzheimer’s that will become lost due to wondering. The GPS Shoes patent covers a transceiver locator unit discreetly placed within the footwear providing a dynamic method for accurately positioning the shoe with GPS data capture and transmission of that location to a central monitoring station which disseminates the secure data through the use of proprietary software and cellular connectivity and the internet.

Chris Walsh, GTX Corp COO and ex VP at Nike and Reebok affirmed; “A broad patent or several in this case, effectively creates more barriers to entry and blocks competition. Shoe with GPS implant helps track loved ones with dementia

Caring for a loved one with dementia is worrisome, especially if that person is prone to taking flight. Statistics suggest that 60 percent of people with Alzheimer's disease will get lost at least once, said Andrew Carle, director of George Mason University's senior housing administration program.

To limit the chaos after an at-risk person walks away on his or her own, two companies have teamed up to produce a shoe embedded with Global Positioning System technology.

Developed by GTX Corp. and Aetrex Worldwide, the shoe is dubbed the Ambulator, and it “tracks the location and movement history of its wearer, relaying the information to a monitoring center through cellular networks,” GTX chief executive Patrick Bertagna     wrote in an e-mail. Concerned family members and friends can log in to a Web site or receive alerts that will pinpoint the location of the person wearing the shoe, Bertagna said.

There are other GPS gadgets geared toward the Alzheimer's market. The major advantage of the shoe, said Carle, who's also a GTX adviser, “is that we're hiding the . . . technology.” The idea is that a person with dementia might have bouts of paranoia but would be unlikely to remember there's a tracking device in his shoe and try to rip it out. Also, Carle said, because people with dementia often retain their habitual memory, they'll be likely to put on their shoes before going out.

The companies are planning to start selling the shoe next spring for $200 to $300, plus a monthly monitoring fee starting at about $18 per month. Some of the costs may be reimbursed by Medicare, Bertagna said.
